associated vs dissociated [0523.1999]

posted to mindlist

I'm working on my self-hypnosis script... I spent a few hours rewriting it last night, and had some questions.

I mentioned last time that I led the listener through approaching several women just to say hello.. I've added another iteration where they actually start a conversation.. Someone pointed out to me that I made all of these encounters associated, and suggested making the first one dissociated. I think this is a great idea... but I have a question:

Well, why? Why the first one, as opposed to the last one, or one in the middle?

Dissociation lessens the feelings, gives you a more logical approach to the situation... It lets you notice how you appear to outsiders..

Association into your own body heightens the feelings.. Lets you experience something as if you were actually there, doing it... And would thus (I've always thought) lead to faster learnings.

Associating into someone else's body (second perceptual position) lets you see how you look from their eyes.. And it can give you potentially useful (or misleading, if you don't calibrate) information about the other person's state.

Structurally speaking, though, how would you put these viewpoints together when building a hypnotic experience? Is there any benefit to the ordering?

Before I give a specific example, here's another question: what's the benefits of panoramic views versus framed pictures? I tend to associate the former with associated pictures and the latter with dissociated, but that has been a limitation on my part. Consider a game like doom or Quake: associated, but framed... Likewise, you could be in a panoramic, 3-d world, yet still be outside yourself, watching. How does this effect you?

Okay, here's my specific question. I've got a scene in my tape where I lead the user through a romantic encounter... Making a powerful, graphic visualization of... well.. interacting... :) ... with this special someone.. The intent is to create a sensory rich experience.. And then, using a timeline, trace the events leading up to this back into the past..

(let me clarify.. the goal isn't to get laid.. it's finding this special person)

In the first version, I simply stopped in the middle of the visualization, dissociated, and moved on to the timeline work. That's a really sucky pattern to reinforce, though... I mean, it just doesn't work in real life if you dissociate yourself while you're sucking face (or whatever).

In this second version, I started off dissociated, stepped into the picture for a while, and then stepped back out after a few moments, but let the movie continue to run in a frame on my timeline..

What would you do? Some people say you should always associate into a goal, because it gives your brain a clear understanding of what you want.. Others say the opposite, because if you're dissociated, then you'll be more motivated to move towards it.

Now, in writing this post, I also got it into my head that I could use that same visualization and mess with submodalities to make sure it becomes something the listener can achieve, deserves, etc.. That lends itself to framing, if I want to move it spatially.. But again, dissociated or associated?

Thanks in advance for the feedback.
